Life Begins In Africa

History can not be changed. From the hand-woven and hand-dyed fabrics from the villages of Burkina Faso to implied patchwork and patterns that symbolize stories that our ancestors have left us, I am reminded why Studio 189 is one of my favorite sustainable and culturally responsible labels in fashion.

From my first introduction to the brand, I have been in love with its ability to be fresh, authentic and natural. Abrima Erwiah and Rosario Dawson are doing more than just designing beautiful garments for beautiful people. Spring Summer 2020 is more than just a season of 61 looks were presented at Spring Studios designed with flowing maxi dresses and wide legged pants or cotton pant suits and tiered skirts. The collection is 61 looks that represented our human connection to each other, the diversity in the African and African American experience, and that style, just like life, originates in Africa. It’s a collection that is a bow to Mother Africa and all that she has done.

Here are 9 of my favorite looks.
