#NYFW | Leaf Xia A/W 19
Face Fear With Love, signed Hello Kitty.
Chinese designer Leaf Xia arrived in New York City 6 years ago to study womenswear at Parsons the New School of Design. Through curious eyes, Xia fell madly in love with New York City and submerged her self in everything America’s biggest city has to offer. The cultural diversity. The new experiences. The subway rides. Queue “Bright Lights Bigger City” by CeeLo Green and “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
As Xia reminisces about her experience for her debut collection, she finds her own cultural identity in such an eclectic city through bright colors, playful prints and 8 looks in collaboration with worldwide Japanese Icon, Hello Kitty; a girl’s true best friend.
A/W 19 Leaf Xia is vibrant, playful and a breath of fresh air. It’s not trendy, safe or ordinary. There are no muted color pallets or celebrity powered silhouettes driving the inspiration for the collection. Leaf Xia does something that is hard to come by in recent seasons of NYFW; creating a daring collection with a clear inspiration while having a fun and entertaining runway show. The beauty surrounding Xia’s experiences living in the city matched with her internal search for cultural identity in a foreign place creates a versatile collection for all age groups.
Now if only I could find out where to buy the collection in America.
