#NYFW | HAKAN AKKAYA F/W 20
Power. Punk. Dominance.
HAKAN AKKAYA has created a love letter to the strong women who stand against violence for his Fall/ Winter 2020-2021 collection. The Turkish designer take us through his imagination where this season’s muse is a woman who has ran away from their life in the the Amish sect and embraced the subculture of Modern Age Punk. What would happen if you merged the two cultures and dressed a powerful woman?
You know she’s a “Hellraiser;” screaming “Las Tesis” from her lungs as she joins other fearless women on the streets. “ANARCHY!!” she screams every second she can because there can be no revolution without justice and equality. At first glance, she is deemed “une provocatrice ou dominatrice” because her wardrobe is anything but subtle and that’s alright with her. To keep up with her punk life style she keeps her hair cut like Joan Jett and she walks to the beat of “Cherry Bomb” by The Runaways everywhere she goes. While she’s on her own personal journey to find self-expression, she can’t forget her past. 365 days a week she continues to wear her uniform of strictly black and white but adapts her traditional Amish coverings with metal embellishments and oversized silver jump-rings. To counter the metal in unmentionable places and patent leather, she mixes plissé and poplin fabrics to add a layer of softness to her otherwise strong and magnetic silhouettes.
She believes in revolution and equality. She does what she wants and she demands respect.
Here are 9 of my favorite looks from the Fall/ Winter 2020-2021 collection shown at NYFW.
