#NYFW | SHEGUANG HU A/W 20
“Hear ye, hear ye!” — the town crier would shout.
“Off with their heads.”- The Queen of Hearts in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Chinese designer, Sheguang Hu, takes us into a couture fairytale filled with court jesters and Jane fooles. For his 2020 Autumn/Winter collection, Hu mixes monochromatic argyle patterns and sequin Cheongsams with Elizabethan neck ruffles and dramatic royal makeup creating a one of a kind Grimm fairytale.
Without using the usual tulle and silk fabrics familiar with couture, Hu is able to elucidate the luxury of a practical Elizabethan winter. Two sided reversible sequin fabric is used to construct royal mantles fit for a queen and form fitting tuxedo coats trimmed in fur. Thigh high platform boots made for a head turning harlequin. Argyle trousers to hide the long legs of a stilt walker. Stiff elaborate ruffles made of organza and flexible boning adorn the necks of queens.
So many details for a royal story.
Here are my favorite looks.
