#UnderpinPR | Farradas Knits FW19
I MISS THE MALL FW19
Somewhere in an alternative universe is a group of mall addition “Polly Pocket Dolls” dressed in knitwear inspired by a blend of “Mars Attacks!” meets kawaii “Lisa Frank.” As they walk through the mall with frilly ribbon trimmed socks and chunky Sketchers, they drinking out of Gina Ekiss designed cups at the food court. They are the brightest things in the mall, besides the beanie babies stacking the shelves of KB Toystore, and they know this. They are here every weekend prancing up and down the escalators in handmade dresses with stiff hairspray and gelled hair on their way to blockbusters to pick up a copy of Austin Powers or I Know What You Did Last Summer. The last stop of the night is always Claires for the metallic lipstick that only looks fashionable on them. They are fun, quirky and at times just as sexy. A friends circle of show stopping mallrats.
I imagine this is what Cuban American designer, Caitlin Farradas in mind when she created the FW19 collection of Farradas Knits. Handmade knitwear straight out of her Greenpoint studio in Brooklyn, New York. Caitlin wants Farradas Knits to be a “balance of kitsch and sass, sex appeal and quirkiness.” As she continues to create made to order and custom designed garments, she hasn't strayed away from that mission statement. Make sure to follow Farradas Knits journey on Instagram.
Here are my favorite photos from her presentation at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles.
